Grab a Ring-side Seat at the Marble Lounge May 22
The Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA) is looking for a knockout at the next Marble Lounge on May 22. Boxers from Detroit’s famed Kronk gym will duke it out and Mexican masked wrestlers, La Revolucha, will hit the mats in a ring taking center stage in Prentis Court. The Bang DJ team provides the backdrop with a dance party adventure mixing everything from rock’n’roll to ‘60s soul, from BritPop to HipHop.
The late night Thursday affair will take place from 10 p.m.–2 a.m. The monthly Marble Lounge also features a cash bar and food.
This is a first for the museum, and the night’s entertainment is in conjunction with the special exhibitions Life’s Pleasures: The Ashcan Artists’ Brush with Leisure, 1895-1925 and Give it a Rest: People at Play in American Prints and Drawings, 1895-1945 (the latter will be open for viewing), each of which features classic images of the ring.
“Our first Marble Lounge in March was a huge success,” said Jim Boyle, DIA director of Marketing. “We had nearly 400 attendees. We expect this one to also draw a large crowd curious to watch boxing and wrestling take place in the unlikeliest of places, an art museum.”
Tickets are $10 for guests 18-years-old and up, and will be available at the door.

The Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA), one of the premier art museums in the United States, is home to more than 60,000 works that comprise a multicultural survey of human creativity from ancient times through the 21st century. From the first van Gogh painting to enter a U.S. museum (Self Portrait, 1887), to Diego Rivera's world-renowned Detroit Industry murals (1932–33), the DIA's collection is known for its quality, range, and depth.
Programs are made possible with support from the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs and the City of Detroit.
