(Denmark—2006—directed by Lars Von Trier)

For years, the gutless president of an internet company has blamed his annoying and inconsistent office policies on an imaginary superior named “Sven.” But when the company receives a buyout offer, a failed actor named Kristoffer (Jens Albinus), is hired to play the part of the phantom “boss of it all.” At first, Kristoffer rather mindlessly enjoys the trappings and privileges that come with the new role he’s been hired to play, but when he finally figures out the real reason he’s there, it begins to dawn on him that he has choices – one of which is to take hold of his responsibilities and try to run the company properly, bringing “Sven” to life in a way nobody bargained for. This insightful and breezy new comedy from Lars von Trier marks a distinct and successful change of pace for the acclaimed creator of Breaking the Waves and Dogville. In Danish with English subtitles. (100 min.)

“A dryly hilarious, sharp workplace comedy. Finds the common ground between business and acting.”   -Ty Burr, The Boston Globe
