(USA/Uganda/2007) Directed by Sean Fine and Andrea Nix Fine)

Set in Northern Uganda, a country ravaged by more than two decades of civil war, the remarkable new documentary War/Dance tells the story of Dominic, Rose, and Nancy, three children whose families have been torn apart, their homes destroyed, and who currently reside in a displaced persons camp in Patongo. But when they are invited to compete in an annual music and dance festival, their historic journey to their nation’s capital is also an opportunity to regain a part of their childhood and to taste triumph for the first time in their lives. Kenneth Turan of the Los Angeles Times wrote “To make a memorable documentary, a film like Hoop Dreams or Spellbound that can't be forgotten, you have to be more than gifted, you need an instinct for an unusual story and you must have luck on your side. War/Dance has all that and more. It’s as irresistible as the rhythms of the African music on its soundtrack. The effect is overpowering, and the film is something quite special.” Best Documentary Directing Prize, 2007 Sundance Film Festival. (105 min.) Thu. at 7:30; Fri. and Sat. at 9:30

“Deeply affecting… A hymn to the endurance of beauty and joy.” –Ann Hornaday, The Washington Post
