In The Deadly Mantis (1957) a prehistoric praying mantis the size of an extra-large earthmover is released from an iceberg where he’s been slumbering in suspended animation for ages; he quickly gets to work laying waste to Washington and New York, and seems to be planning total bug domination of the world. The heroic scientist is played by Craig Stevens, star of TV’s popular Peter Gunn. (79 min.) The Monolith Monsters — probably the most unique monster concept of the era—stars Grant Williams (The Incredible Shrinking Man) as a geologist who races against time to stop the invasion of deadly rocks from space that expand at a fantastic rate, smashing everything in their path and turning towns and people to stone! The DFT will also welcome TV20's NIGHTMARE SINEMA host WOLMAN MAC, who will appear live to introduce the double feature! (78 min.)
