This magnificently mounted film version of Puccini’s immortal love story was directed by Academy Award nominee Robert Dornheim (The Children of Theatre Street) and stars the opera world’s revered “dream team,” soprano Anna Netrebko and tenor Rolando Villazón. Though realistically staged in terms of set design and costumes, Dornheim’s lavish film is hauntingly dreamlike in tone. Yet La Bohème’s rich visual qualities take an appropriate backseat to stars Netrebko and Villazón; the director made it clear from the very earliest stages of this project that his concept was to create a lasting monument to these two great singers, and he’s accomplished that goal with style, grace and power. Sung in Italian with English subtitles. (109 min.)

“Breathtakingly dramatic and emotional. Dornheim has succeeded in adding another exciting and dynamic dimension to the opera.” -Opera Now Magazine
