(Germany/2009—directed by Maren Ade)

Chris (Lars Eidinger) and Gitti (Birgit Minichmayr) are a young couple whose bouts of intimacy tend to alternate with mutual, passive-aggressive behavior. On vacation together in Sardinia, they spend time with another couple whose success – and successful marriage – bring out Chris’s jealousy and push Gitti’s suppressed resentment toward a tipping point. A breathtakingly honest and recognizable portrait of a relationship in crisis, Everyone Else is a modest yet perfectly realized portrait of the delicate balance required to be – and remain – a couple. Suggested for persons over 18. In German with English subtitles. (120 min.)

“Brilliant. A delicious, acutely observed dissection of the ties between two young lovers.” –Peter Brunette, The Hollywood Reporter
