A personal reflection on art, life and the movies, The Beaches of Agnès is a magnificent documentary from the great Agnès Varda, director of The Gleaners and I, Vagabond and the groundbreaking Cleo From 5 to 7.  A richly cinematic self portrait that touches on everything from the feminist movement to the birth of the French New Wave to the revered films of Varda’s late husband Jacques Demy (The Umbrellas of Cherbourg, Donkey Skin), The Beaches of Agnès is simply, as The New York Times’ Manohla Dargis put it, “glorious… rich in comedy and filled with wise reflections about the wonders of life.” Winner of the César (France’s Oscar) for Best Documentary. In French with English subtitles. (110 min.)
"A great, loving, uplifting film.” –Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times
