BRITISH TELEVISION ADVERTISING AWARDS
October 8-10 and 15-17
Various directors (90 min.)
Once again, some of the most entertaining,
witty and creative examples of British filmmaking can be found in their
incomparable and often startling television advertising. Unlike any other TV
advertisers in the world, Britain’s unique cinematic Mad Men consistently
fashion imaginative, witty, technically sophisticated, cutting-edge productions
that are often the earliest showcases for soon-to-be celebrated filmmakers such
as Ridley Scott (Blade Runner), Hugh
Hudson (Chariots of Fire), and Alan
Parker (Midnight Express). Since the
1980s, each year’s collection of top BTAA prizewinners has toured the world in
a showcase that has grown a cult following in the select number of cities in which
it plays. Thanks to the response to the 2009 program, we’re delighted this year
to be the first stop in the 2010 U.S. tour, to be followed by venues such as
New York’s Museum of Modern Art and the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis. One
of the year’s must-see DFT events.
