(USA/2008—directed by Bill Plympton)

The latest animated feature from the amazingly gifted Bill Plympton (How to Kiss, The Cow Who Wanted To Be a Hamburger) is the story of Angel, a selfish, morally bankrupt creep who spends his time at the local bar, berating other patrons. Everything changes when one day – in a Kafka-ish development – Angel wakes up to discover that overnight he’s mysteriously grown a pair of wings; even more alarming is the inexplicable fact that, contrary to his nature, the wings are inspiring him to do good deeds. Desperately trying to rid himself of his new appendages, Angel finds himself pitted against some surprising enemies. Hilarious, sometimes gross, always inventive, Idiots and Angels is a deliriously existential, decidedly grown-up entertainment. (78 min.)

“Bill Plympton never knows when to stop – thank God! Where does he buy his drugs?” Terry Gilliam
