(Japan/2011--directed by Takeshi Kitano)

In a ruthless battle for power, several yakuza clans vie for the favor of their crime family head in the Japanese underworld. The rival bosses seek to rise through the ranks by scheming and making allegiances sworn over saké. Long-time yakuza Otomo (played with a wonderfully palpable intelligence by the legendary actor/director Takeshi ‘Beat’ Kitano) has seen his kind go from sporting elaborate body tattoos and severed fingers to becoming important players in the world financial markets. Theirs is a never-ending struggle to wind up on top – or at least to survive – in a corrupt world where there are no heroes, but only the constant threat of ruthless betrayal and the daily expectations of vengeance. In Japanese with English subtitles. Note: due to scenes depicting graphic violence, this film is not recommended for persons under 18. (112 min.)

"Visually stunning. A beautifully staged marvel that confidently reasserts Kitano's considerable cinematic gifts. By the final reels, it's all-out yakuza war." –Rob Nelson, Variety

"Bursts with cinematic power! Humor as mean and dry as a straight-up martini." –Maggie Lee, The Hollywood Reporter

"A truly iconic international crime film. When it comes to the gangster movie, few have done it better than Kitano, and with Outrage he is absolutely back in peak form." –Todd Brown, Twitch
