Nicholas Winton, now 102 years old, is an Englishman who
organized the rescue of 669 Czech and Slovak children just prior to the
outbreak of World War II. For more than half a century Winton didn’t speak of
these events, but when his wife discovered a suitcase in the attic that was
full of documents and transit plans, his extraordinary history came to light.
Subsequently Winton was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II and was officially
recognized by the U.S. House of Representatives, and hundreds of thousands of
children the world over – including 120,000 in the Czech Republic alone – have
signed petitions to award Winton the Nobel Prize. Today the descendants of the
children he saved number more than 6,000; his priceless legacy has been
superbly recalled in this lovingly crafted portrait of one of the world’s most
modest yet precious heroes. Nicky's Family was awarded the prestigious 2012 Archive Award from the
British Film Institute. In English. (96 min.)
