Bal Africain®, which celebrates the cultural heritage of the African diaspora, is one of the most important fundraising events at the Detroit Institute of Arts. This year's Bal celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Friends of African And African American Art (FAAAA).

The 48th Annual Bal Africain® will be held on June 15th, 2013. The theme for this exciting gala is "The Whole World is a Stage... The Art of Performance."

This year's Bal will honor actor, director, producer and political activist Danny Glover who has been a commanding presence on stage and screen for over 25 years.

Proceeds support acquisitions for the museum's collections of African and African American art, as well as lectures and programs sponsored by FAAAA.
