(USA/2013–directed by Seth Kramer, Daniel Miller and Jeremy Newberger)

Before reality morphed into a TV genre, the viewing masses fixated on a single, possibly sociopathic star: controversial talk-show host Morton Downey, Jr. In the late ‘80s, Downey tore apart the traditional talk format by turning debate of current issues into a gladiator pit. His blow-smoke-in-your-face style (Downey’s on-and-off chain-smoking took its toll in a hurry) drew a rabid cult following, but also the title “Father of Trash Television.” This raucous, eye-opening documentary dissects the mind and motivation of television’s most notorious agitator. Tribeca Film Festival, Official Selection. (90 min.)

“A fascinating look at an almost frighteningly charismatic figure.” –Kyle Smith, New York Post

Évocateur director Daniel Miller will be present at the Saturday 9:30pm screening to discuss the film with audience members.
