Enrico Oliveri is a man of the left, and secretary of the main opposition party. Challenged during a congress and defeated by a recent  poll, he decides to take a break and leave behind his wife, home, country and party. Meanwhile in Rome, his faithful collaborator Andrea Bottini tries to repair the damage by filling the void with a "perfect" maneuver: he replaces Enrico with his  twin brother Giovanni, a professor of philosophy who suffers from a bipolar depression.
