(Ukraine/2013/ directed by Valentyn Vasianovych)
In a proverbial instance of life imitating art, Credenza astutely anticipates the current Ukrainian revolution with a dark comedy about one family whose dynamics are rapidly reaching the boiling point. In their intimate collision of wills we see reflected an old Ukraine –deeply rooted in Soviet values and worldview–clash with a new Ukraine fighting for liberty and human dignity. Dr. Yuri Shevchuk, a leading expert on the history of Ukrainian cinema, will be present to discuss Credenza and current events in Kyiv.

This program is presented free to the public through a partnership with the Wayne State University Dept. of Classical and Modern Languages, Literatures and Cultures, Ukrainian Studies Endowment Fund, Ukrainian Film Club of Columbia University and the Detroit Film Theatre.
