FREEP FILM FESTIVAL: Movie Palaces Tour
Saturday, March 22, 2014
9 a.m.-noon, Downtown Detroit
Preservation Detroit has teamed up with the Freep Film Festival to provide behind-the-scenes tours of several of downtown Detroit’s movie palaces during the festival weekend. The in-depth walking tour is a slightly smaller version of the popular theater events that Preservation Detroit — a nonprofit organization dedicated to historic preservation within the city of Detroit — provides annually in late summer. The March edition will include walking stops at four historic theaters: the Detroit Opera House, the Fox Theatre, the Fillmore Detroit and Music Hall Center for the Performing Arts, plus a bus ride to the Detroit Film Theatre at the Detroit Institute of Arts. Backstage visits and other rare vantage points are typically part of the tours. The price ($35) includes a voucher for a Freep Film Festival screening redeemable anytime that weekend.
