Cinetopia Film Festival: Finding Mr. Right

Friday, June 06, 2014

4:00 PM Marvin & Betty Danto Lecture Hall

(China/Hong Kong–2013/directed by Xiao Lu Xue)

A rom-com with twists aplenty, Finding Mr. Right follows impudent Chinese girl Wen Jiajia’s whirlwind encounters in Seattle. In the United States to deliver her wealthy lover’s child in an illegal ‘maternity mansion’, Jiajia is not afraid to throw her money or her weight around. From causing chaos in the lives of the expectant mothers around her to adapting to life in a foreign land, Jiajia’s life sees a steady turnaround. Friends are found in unlikely places and unforgettable bonds are forged. Eventually, torn between an upscale life filled with loneliness and a modest existence defined by love, Jiajia is driven to ask herself what she really wants. Peppered with references to Sleepless in Seattle, there’s an equal opportunity for laughter and sighs in this new age love story which exultingly doffs its hat to classic Hollywood romance.
