Most of us only get in the mood for Christmas music once a year. Some people think even that’s too often. Music enthusiast Mitchell Kezin’s obsession with holiday tunes extends well beyond the season. It all began with Nat King Cole’s The Little Boy That Santa Claus Forgot. As a child, Mitchell related to the song’s emotional message about a lonely boy with an absent father. Realizing that Christmas music was broader and more complex than generic mainstream fare, he began digging through dusty crates at record stores, looking for obscure LPs. It’s a passion that’s remained strong for 25 years. Mitchell’s sincere excitement is contagious, leading even the biggest haters to gain a new appreciation for seasonal ditties. With appearances by Wayne Coyne (The Flaming Lips), John Waters, Joseph “Run” Simmons” (Run DMC), Dr. Demento, and more, Jingle Bell Rocks! is a delightful documentary about a very unlikely hobby.
