7:00 PM Detroit Film Theatre

(France/2016—directed by Jacques Perrin and Jacques Cluzaud)

The filmmakers who dazzled us with Winged Migration take their documentary skills to a whole new scale, beginning with the appearance of the lush forests and megafauna that emerged at the end of the last Ice Age. Winter had lasted for 80,000 years when, in a short period of time, the ice retreated, the landscape metamorphosed, the cycle of seasons was established and the beasts occupied their new kingdom. Man arrived to share this habitat, first as migratory hunters, then as agriculturalists and – eventually – in far more influential ways. Through stunning, high-definition images of life of every kind and era, Seasons relates the tumultuous shared history that binds humankind with the natural world around us. (95 minutes)

“Breathtaking! Gorgeously cinematic.” –Peter Debruge, Variety
