Gallery Tour: Picasso & Matisse
Saturday, December 08, 2012 |10:00 AM – 11:30 AM
Pablo Picasso and Henri Matisse laid the foundations for 20th-century art. Inspired by the geometrical forms of Cézanne’s post-impressionist figures, Picasso created Cubism along with Georges Braque. Matisse, also inspired by Cézanne, embraced Cézanne’s vibrant colors and moved toward executing two dimensional images in a flat color palette.
Please join Salvador Salort-Pons on a tour of DIA’s art by Picasso and Matisse, both avant-garde leaders of their time and aesthetic rivals in Paris.
Salvador Salort-Pons specializes in Italian, Spanish, and French old masters paintings. Prior to joining the DIA, he was an Assistant Professor at the University of Madrid and Senior Curator at the Meadows Museum at Southern Methodist University in Dallas. Salort-Pons received his Ph.D. from the Royal College of Spain at the University of Bologna in Italy.
