The goal of this workshop is to allow teachers to experience crossovers between writing and visual art in order to strengthen the teaching of writing and enhance curricular goals.  Working directly from works of art in the galleries at the Detroit Institute of Arts, participants will engage in guided discussion designed to enhance observation and critical thinking skills.  They will experiment with writing stances and voices designed to articulate their own written responses and to prompt exploration of the ways that works of art can deepen students’ understandings of both the art and core content. Presenters will share lesson plans that address elementary, middle and high school themes and objectives, promote thoughtful expression, and align with Michigan Department of Education standards and the Common Core.

Facilitated by Inside Out Literary Arts Project Staff
