  • For Everyone

Along with Aretha Franklin, Bettye LaVette is one of her generation’s most vital Soul singers. LaVette, raised in Detroit, scored her breakout hit in 1962 at the age of 16, and her career has since taken her down many paths, exploring many musical genres. She received the 2004 Blues Music Awards Comeback Blues Album of the Year for her A Woman Like Me CD, the Contemporary Blues Female Artist of the Year in 2008, and brought down the house with her performance of Love Reign o’er Me at the 2010 Kennedy Center Honors Ceremony. Funding provided by Friends of African and African American Art, in celebration of their 50th anniversary.
