Gallery Tour: Crossroads

Saturday, March 30, 2013 |10:00 AM – 11:30 AM

The rise of the modern, industrial world in nineteenth-century Europe inspired artists to explore new subjects and approaches to painting to reveal the sometimes unpleasant realities of modern life.  In short, artists found themselves at a crossroads between old and new.  Jean-Léon Gérôme, John Everett Millais and Ferdinand Hodler, celebrated artists from this period, each emphasize the complexity of nineteenth century life.

Please join Salvador Salort-Pons on a tour of DIA’s European paintings from the latter half of the nineteenth century as he explores the divergent styles and subject matter behind these masterpieces.
