Dancers in Repose (72.441) — Edgar Degas

Monday, August 01, 2016 – Monday, October 31, 2016

Inside|Out has been in more than 100 communities over the past seven years. During the 2016 season, nine venues will be participating for the first time: Chesterfield Township; Lathrup Village; Springfield Township; Beverly Hills; Commerce Township; River Rouge; East English Village, an east side Detroit neighborhood; Ecorse; and Grandmont Rosedale, a northwest Detroit neighborhood.

“Inside|Out has become a key component of the DIA’s community engagement efforts,” said Salvador Salort-Pons, DIA director. “We’re thrilled to share the program with nine new venues next year and expand our partnerships with metro Detroit communities thanks to continued support from the Knight Foundation.”

Highlights for next year include an installation along the northern end of the Dequindre Cut to celebrate the expansion of the greenway past Gratiot Ave. and an installation at the Alger Theater, which plans to host programs in both East English Village and nearby Grosse Pointe.

The DIA encourages each community to plan activities centered around its Inside|Out works, and more events will be planned closer to installation dates. Previous activities have included bike and walking tours, bus tours, talks at local libraries, festivals and more.

More than 80 reproductions will be in nine communities from April to July, and then in nine other communities from August to October. Each community will have from seven to 12 images clustered within walking or bike-riding distance.

Call For Participation for Inside|Out 2017

The Detroit Institute of Arts' Inside|Out program is expanding into it's eighth year! We're asking city representatives, downtown development authorities and arts organizations interested in being part of the museum's popular program to submit applications for 2017. Communities can choose one of two seasons to be a part of: Spring, from April to July, or Summer, from August to October. Selected communities will have the opportunity to host 7 to 12 reproductions within walking or bike-riding distance from each other.
Cities and businesses that take part in Inside|Out will be featured on an interactive map accessible at DIA.org/InsideOut, promoted through the DIA's Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat feeds, and more. The museum installs the reproductions and can assist community leaders in developing educational programs that engage people, and inspire them to visit their DIA. Past events have included wine-tasting bus tours, bike and walking tours, talks at local libraries and art galleries.
Apply by Monday, October 31! Download the application here
An application does not guarantee a place in next year's schedule. Preference is given to communities located in Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb counties and to those municipalities who have not participated before.
