Art in Focus: Buddhist Sculpture

The Buddhist religion has had a profound influence on the art and
culture of many Asian countries. Learn more about Buddhist teachings
as expressed in selected examples of Asian sculpture. One Buddhist
sculpture in each of the Asian galleries has been chosen to
illustrate the flow of artistic ideas from India to China, then to
Korea and finally to Japan. A printed guide available in the
galleries illuminates the similarities between these sculptures and
highlights elements symbolizing such important Buddhist concepts as
enlightenment, selflessness, wisdom and tranquility.
