DIA Moment: Poetry Reading with InsideOut Literary Arts Project’s Founding Director Dr. Terry Blackhawk

InsideOut Literary Arts Project’s Founding Director Dr. Terry Blackhawk is the author of Body & Field, The Dropped Hand, and Escape Artist,
winner of the 2002 John Ciardi Poetry Prize, as well as two chapbooks
of poems. Blackhawk’s poems have appeared widely in journals, on-line at
Poetry Daily and Verse Daily and in many anthologies, most recently When She Named Fire: Contemporary Poems by American Women. Awards include the 1990 Foley Poetry Award, the 2010 Pablo Neruda Prize from Nimrod International,
a Teacher-Scholar Award from the National Endowment for the Humanities
and an Artist-in-Residence grant from Michigan Council for Arts and
Cultural Affairs. Her full-length poetry collection, The Light Between,
is forthcoming in the “Made in Michigan” series from Wayne State
University Press. She received the Michigan Governor’s Award for Arts
in Education and was twice named Creative Writing Educator of the Year
by the Michigan Youth Arts Festival. Blackhawk serves on the board of
the Association of Writers and Writing Programs and the founding board
of the National Writers in the Schools Alliance.
