Glenn Tucker Quintet’s Jazz Nativity

Friday, December 20, 2013

7 & 8:30 pm

  • For Everyone
Detroit-based, organist/pianist Glenn Tucker presents fresh and vibrant holiday music centered around Olivier Messiaen's two Christmas cycles: La Nativité du Seigneur for pipe organ and Vingt regards sur l'enfant Jésus for piano. Both pieces depict images and ideas found in the Nativity story, reflecting Messiaen’s deep Catholic faith and mystic creativity. Tucker has studied La Nativité with legendary organ pedagogue Marilyn Mason, and brings his jazz background to mold these compositions into compelling new sounds. The quintet consists of Glenn Tucker on piano, Paul Finkbeiner on trumpet, Rafael Statin on reeds, Damon Warmack on bass, and Jesse Kramer on drums.
