An Evening of Words and Music with Ron Carter and Danny Simmons

Legendary bassist Ron Carter  and abstract-expressionist artist, poet, author and older brother of hip-hop entrepreneur Russell Simmons and rapper Joseph Simmons of Run DMC, Daniel Simmons,  combine their talents for an evening of music and poetry. Simmons will be reading from his new book, The Brown Beatnik Tomes, accompanied by Ron Carter on bass. The evening will also feature poetry from a number surprise guest artists. 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
Drop-In Workshop: Rakhi
In east Indian culture girls tied bans made silk cord beads and foils around the wrist of males during Rakhi, a festival celebrating friendship in August. Create your own Rakhi using a variety of cords and embellishments.
 
 
 
 
 
Drawing in the Galleries for Youth
6–9 p.m.
(Ages 6–14, children 12 and younger must be accompanied by an adult)
Artist/instructors help participants create pencil drawings to take home. No experience necessary; materials provided.
