DADDY LONG LEGS

Saturday, April 05, 2008 4:00 PM

(1919) Directed by Marshall Neilan

Mary Pickford plays an orphan found in a trash can, who finds her way out of institutional abuse and neglect to become a college student and budding author. Pickford’s character refuses to endure the world (particularly its treatment of orphans) and her quintessentially American pluck and resilience carry the day. Daddy Long Legs reflects both fascination and ambivalence towards women’s expanding social prerogatives (94 min.) Sat. at 4:00
