Member Preview Lecture: Bars, Cafes and Parks: The Ashcan’s Joie de Vivre

February 29 - March 1, 2008 Friday at 6:30 p.m.; Saturday at 12:30 p.m.

The artists of the Ashcan school were best known for their gritty representations of the working class in turn-of-the-twentieth-century New York. But, as James Tottis, associate curator of American art and curator of the Life's Pleasures: The Ashcan Artists' Brush with Leisure, points out in this lecture, they also depicted vibrant and diverse leisure activities pursued by people from all walks of life.
