Leave Your Sleep: A Children's Music and Poetry Workshop with Natalie Merchant

Friday, July 12, 2013

11:30 a.m.

Musician Natalie Merchant, with members of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, presents an intimate 50-minute concert workshop for children exploring the music, poetry and artwork from Merchant's recent picture book, Leave Your Sleep and the album that inspired it.

With a career spanning over 30 years, Merchant, former lead singer of the band 10,000 Maniacs, has released fourteen albums and gained the reputation as being a singer-songwriter and live performer of rare quality. With the birth of her daughter in 2003 she began composing songs based on classic and contemporary children's poetry. These adaptations grew into a large thematic work entitled Leave Your Sleep, a double-album released in 2010. Now, award-winning children's artist Barbara McClintock has created a beautifully illustrated picture book inspired by the album.

This special concert event is designed for children ages 4-10. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Tickets are SOLD OUT for this event.
