11:00 a.m. – Meet in the studio of Ladislav Hanka
Hanka works in all forms of intaglio. His 1993 etching, aquatint, and drypoint in the DIA collection called Return of the Sturgeon is a good example of his deep interest in flora and fauna of the Great Lakes. You’ll also be intrigued by his use of very irregularly shaped plates for his landscape and marine subjects.

LUNCH AT A DOWNTOWN KALAMAZOO RESTAURANT

2:00 p.m. – Regroup in the studio of Mary Brodbeck

Brodbeck trained in the classic Japanese woodcut tradition and makes color woodcuts of Great Lakes landscapes. Lap is from her series in the DIA collection called Autumn: Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore Park. She’ll demonstrate all the complex steps in this ancient technique from carving, inking, and printing multiple blocks to create her vivid, modern renditions of subjects of our surroundings.

Please contact Elisia Wheeler to make your participation payment of $50.00 per person at 313-833-9830 or ewheeler@dia.org. Please sign-up quickly to allow time for mailing of required waivers of liability that must be returned by each traveler to the DIA prior to the date of travel.
