Grand Opening at the New DIA
There's a transformation taking place at the Detroit Institute of Arts. As we put the finishing
touches on one of the most ambitious construction projects in our history, we’re also mapping out
the spectacular events that will re-open the building upon its completion. You are invited to all
of the events noted below, so get out your calendars and start planning.

The Alex Donner Band
Alex Donner is one of America's most popular band leaders, performing with
his orchestra more than 100 times every year in the finest venues from coast
to coast. Known for their ability to move seamlessly from one musical genre
to another, Mr. Donner and his exceptional musicians bring sophistication
and style to every party.
Michael Israel
Michael Israel is an amazing performance artist who creates incredible works
of art while moving energetically to music. Mr. Israel's "art in concert"
compositions have been the centerpiece of numerous special events and hang
in private collections across the country. This action artist must be seen
to be believed!
DJ Cassidy
A great DJ hooks into the emotions of guests and carries the party to new
levels. DJ Cassidy has done just that for numerous celebrity hosts including
Oprah Winfrey, LL Cool J, Calvin Klein, Mary J. Blige, and Jennifer Lopez.
He's more than ready to do it in Detroit at the DIA!
Chris Nunez
The star of the popular television show, Miami Ink, Chris Nunez and his crew
of skilled artists bring an entirely new meaning to tattoo. Be ready to bare
some skin for your personal work of art — temporary, of course!
Osadia
A street-theater company from Barcelona, Spain, Osadia, offers an original
and provocative exhibition of hair art with active participation from the
audience. You'll be seduced by the sensational looks of the performers and
the imaginative and sophisticated show. Audiences are transfixed as hair
becomes art.
Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet
Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet makes its home in New York City's thriving
West Chelsea Gallery District. Under the artistic direction of Benoit-Swan
Pouffer, the 18-member company's repertory features works by an impressive
roster of internationally renowned choreographers. Founded in 2003 the
Company has quickly built a reputation with its highly energetic dancing
and powerful theatricality.

Public Opening; November 23, 2007
Come one, come all! Beginning on November 23 the new DIA officially opens its
doors to the public with a weekend of activities and a new museum that will be
the talk of the town. Mark your calendars and be sure to not only see the new
museum for yourself, but show it off to your out-of-town guests. Admission is
free there will be something for everyone — from families to night owls,
including some special late-night features.
We'll be open 32 hours straight from 10 a.m. on November 23 to 6 p.m. on November
24. Art After Hours kicks in from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. with DJ’s, coney
dogs and sliders!
Don't miss art, music, dance, yoga, fencing, poetry, and of course, the real star
— the museum itself — during the rest of the weekend.
