The 42nd Michigan Student Film & Video Festival will take place at the Detroit Film Theatre on Saturday, April 24, 2010. According to the American Film Institute, this festival sponsored by Digital Arts, Film & Television (DAFT) in partnership with the Detroit Film Theatre, is the oldest in the country showcasing the work of students in grades K through 12. Many of the young people who received their first public exposure through the Michigan Student Film & Video Festival have gone on to pursue professional careers in the media arts, and a few have even been awarded Oscars! The Elementary/Junior award ceremony begins at 10 a.m. and the Senior level award ceremony begins at 12:30 p.m. There will be a “pre-glow” with refreshments on the mezzanine level Crystal Gallery at the Detroit Film Theatre at 11:15 a.m. for the Senior level students and their guests. All festival screenings are free to the public.
