Film Schedule
Welcome to the 2008 Detroit Film Theatre
From June through mid-August, the DIA's beautifully restored, 1,000-seat theater will be host to the DFT's 2008 Summer series: a rich mixture of extraordinary feature films, lovingly restored film classics, and eye-opening documentaries from around the world - as well as a number of special matinee programs designed with families in mind. These include a series of Saturday double-feature "monster" matinees, which will bring back the fun and innocence of moviegoing in the 1950s, while also delighting those too young to have actually "been there."
Over four Sunday afternoons, the DFT will present a rare and remarkable program presented in conjunction with The Jim Henson Legacy and the Jane Henson Foundation. These shows will pay tribute to one of the world's most inspired
and innovative film and puppetry artists, Jim Henson. A visionary TV
producer and a world-class puppeteer who created indelible characters like Kermit the Frog, Henson brought a unique combination of childlike wonder and adult sophistication to his groundbreaking work. Muppets, Music & Magic: The Jim Henson Legacy includes rarely seen recordings of Henson's early career as a puppeteer, as well as his first experiments with commercials and television programs.
Among the most anticipated events is a live performance of playwright A.R. Gurney's Love Letters, featuring Jeff Daniels and Sigourney Weaver in person on the DFT stage.
