Our journey began with the unavoidable need to upgrade the entire 1927 Cret building and the adjoining wings, including all the things that keep our art collection safe for future generations. Everything from air handling to electrical systems to temperature and humidity controls have been updated, so rest assured that your grandchildren will be able to show their grandchildren the Van Gogh Self Portrait.

The exterior walls on the wings were also re-clad in new marble and the museum was able to add 35,000 square feet of gallery space, including a four-story addition to the South Wing. In addition visitors will enjoy new amenities, including an expanded cafe with a mouth-watering variety of new choices and a new museum shop with lots of new merchandise.

In the end, however, it’s the art that’s at the heart of any great museum, including the DIA. So just how did the art play a role in our transformation? Click here to learn more.
