| Objectives:
In order to appreciate the many people of different ethnic backgrounds who came to America, students will:
List common celebrations and ways people express their celebrations
Show graphic examples of arts and crafts that early Americans produced in their leisure time
Design and make a mosaic using symbols of celebration from students’ own cultural background
Complete a web quest utilizing the Islamic Tile Fountain, Bearden’s Quilting Time and Arabic Web sites
Complete the summary “Power Writing” response which requires students to explain what images they chose to represent their heritage and why they chose those images

Interpret social science information about the natural environment and cultures of countries from a variety of primary and secondary sources.
