Assessments:

Informal notes will be made regarding student’s identification and interpretation of works of art during class discussion and students’ writing about each artwork.

Students’ definitions of culture will be assessed for distinguishing elements of culture and clear examples of specific cultures.

Assessment will occur several times throughout the unit. Students will be assessed first during the planning process. Each student must show a connection between their sketch and the class discussions based on culture and art history.

The second assessment will occur after they have completed their own individual clay relief. The use of subject, themes and symbols must communicate intended meaning in their artwork.

The final assessment will occur during the wrap up session. In the short essay, students should make the connection between other disciplines, especially in their Social Studies class.
