The final grade was based on how well students responded to written questions and how complete their oral presentations were. [see Activity] The figure project helped them to represent concepts visually and connect these themes to their own lives. Also, in explaining why their ancestors had come to America, students discussed the concepts we had studied earlier of religious freedom, political freedom, slavery, and emancipation.
