Activity Assessments Objectives and Standards Preparation and Resources Teacher Comments

Visiting the DIA was great! Students were interested and participated in the discussion of the Rivera mural with the docent. Students enjoyed working with their hands and building their 3-D figure. Students also liked decorating their sculpture and displayed them in our Media center and showcase. Fellow teachers, parents, and other students saw this display and were impressed.

left to right, heritage figures from:
America (holding a globe symbolizing many cultures), Scotland, England, Africa, Mexico, and India

Our principal helped to coordinate this project; the school counselor was able to watch my art class while I taught Mr. Miller's students. Mr. Miller and I are in the same building, but our classrooms are far apart. We were able to use the cafeteria, which would accommodate the additional students for the art project.

I adapted this project from a Day of the Dead project in which the figures were painted to look like skeletons in different poses.
