Full-Time Non-exempt

$10.78/hour

GENERAL SUMMARY

This position serves as a member of the team of professionals that patrol and guard museum property against vandalism, theft, fire and trespassing.  The position tactfully and effectively communicates the policies and practices established for the protection and safety of museum staff, guests, physical structure, surrounding property and museum assets.  

 

This position reports to the Security Supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS

·         High school diploma required; or GED equivalent

·         Minimum one (1)  year of security experience, including public contact, in a public or private institution

·         Knowledge of security methods and practices 

·         MUST have a valid Michigan Drivers’ License with a Motor Vehicle Report that does not contain any of the following infractions:

 

§  One or more Major Violations within the past five (5) years.

§  Three or more At-Fault Accidents and/or Other Moving Violations in the past three (3) years

§  Two or more At-Fault Accidents and/or Other Moving Violations in the past year

§  Driving with a revoked license.

§  Reckless driving                 

·         Excellent customer service skills, with the ability to interact tactfully and effectively with leadership, peers, other museum staff and the public 

·         Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions               

·         Ability to read and write standard English

·         Ability to walk and stand during shift while assigned to galleries or  patrol of building property

RESPONSIBILITIES

·         Guards and patrols the museum collections, equipment, building and grounds against theft, defacing, or any other action liable to cause damage to museum property
Observes the conduct of museum visitors to detect suspicious actions and non-conformance of rules and regulations

·         Directs visitors to various museum exhibits and other museum facilities
