Introduction to the Visual Thinking Strategies (VTS)
Offered in Partnership with Marygrove College

Participants in this one-day class will be introduced to the Visual Thinking Strategies, an effective model of promoting critical thinking and language skills through looking at art.  The VTS is a research-based teaching method that improves critical thinking and language skills through discussions of visual images.  VTS encourages participation and self-confidence, especially among students who struggle.  VTS is easy to learn and offers a proven strategy for educators to meet current learning objectives.

Upon conclusion, participants will have a basic understanding of VTS and its benefits.  Teachers will come away with information on how to register for a full-training to be held at the DIA this summer.  In addition, recommended reading, additional resources, and DIA services for educators will be presented.
Class will meet Saturday, March 10th, 9:15-3:30 in the DIA’s Holley Room located in the Wayne and Joan Webber Education Wing at the John R Groups and Events Entrance. The DIA is located at 5200 Woodward Avenue in Detroit.
