Explore Rockwell's images of American life through themes of family, innocence and heroism. Visitors will see how Rockwell's images influenced the way Americans thought about their country from the 1920s through the Civil Rights movement.

Visiting

Admission to the exhibition is $8 for students (ages 6 - 17) and $8 for one adult chaperone for every 10 students. This price includes admission to the permanent collection. Limited admission and transportation subsidies are available. For reservations, call Group Sales at 313 833 1292.

Learning before and after your visit

What does family mean to you? Norman Rockwell depicted many families for the covers of the Saturday Evening Post. Create a magazine cover based on your ideas of family. (See covers made in our Drop In workshops Friday Nights and Saturdays, which will hang in our community art gallery for the length of the exhibition.)

Exhibition Audio Tours
The exhibition audio tour is free with admission and features both an adult version (suitable for high school students) and youth version (for grades 5-8).

Learning in the Museum: Want to Keep it Going?
Museum-trained volunteers in the last gallery of the exhibition will direct you to works of art in the DIA galleries that relate to themes in the Rockwell exhibition. They'll also tell you about books, Web sites and movies for use in the classroom.

Teacher Workshops and Evenings for Educators
To register for workshops, call 313 833 4249 or e-mail parks@dia.org. Teacher workshops are open to K-12 educators of all subjects and home school educators. Because of the special focus on instructional issues, teacher workshops are not open to the general public.
