Volunteer Award Winner:
Volunteer to Volunteer - April 2011
The April Volunteer to Volunteer Awardee is Fran Higbie of Staff Aides. Fran is also an honorary member of the IPV committee.
Fran’s love of the DIA began early in life when she began visiting the Museum with her parents around the age of five. Since that time, attending events held at the DIA has always been a significant part of her life, whether as a member or volunteer.
Through the Junior League of Detroit’s Art to Schools program, which eventually became the Art to Schools Committee, Fran began her volunteer work with the DIA. After her retirement, she joined the Art to Schools Committee in 1990. She shared her love of art with students in the Metropolitan Detroit area until
2010 when she became an Honorary member. Since then, Staff Aides has benefited from her many talents and sunny personality.
The DIA is not the only organization with which Fran shares her time and talent. At Preservation Wayne, she conducts walking tours of the Midtown area from May through September. The Belle Isle Botanical Society is has long been a love of hers. Fran’s love of Detroit is reflected in her volunteer activities.
When not volunteering, Fran is busy traveling for pleasure or visiting her far-flung family. She just returned from tip-toeing through the tulips on a trip to Bruges.
Congratulations, Fran, on this well deserved award.
