Volunteer Award Winner:
Erika Baer
Volunteer to Volunteer - June 2011
ERIKA BAER
The June Volunteer to Volunteer Awardee is Erika Baer
of the Gallery Service Committee.
In 2003, Erika joined Gallery Service after her retirement
from the Oakland Steiner School. Oakland Steiner is an independent Waldorf school, which adheres to the educational philosophy of Rudolf Steiner. This method allowed Erika to provide her kindergarten students with an education that deepened the natural joy and wonder of learning.
Erika’s love of art and people led her to volunteer initially at the DIA with the Gallery Service Committee. Her involvement at the museum drew her also to the Detroit Film Theater Committee, in which she is an active member.
A native of Germany, Erika returns to her homeland every few years to visit family and friends. Her love of travel and new experiences has taken her to many destinations around the world.
Her favorite countries are China and Russia. The beauty of Moscow was a wonderful surprise and breathtaking experience for her.
An active person, Erika has many hobbies, including gardening, cooking, and handwork. She is also an avid tennis player.
Her most special weekdays are those spent babysitting her two- year-old grandson in Birmingham, where her only son resides.
Erika and her husband live a busy life.
Congratulations, Erika, on being the June Volunteer to Volunteer awardee.
