DIA Volunteer at Rivera Court
Volunteer Award Winner:
Gallery InformationThe Gallery Information Committee is proud to recognize Mary Keckhut with the distinction of being the Gallery Information Volunteer of the Year.
Mary has been an active member of the committee for the past ten years and has served on the Executive Board for four of those years as Recording Secretary and Treasurer. She also volunteers for Sodexo’s “Feeding Our Future” summer program; the Edsel and Eleanor Ford House; the St. Clair Shores Beautification Commission; and The Lake House, a cancer support center in St. Clair Shores.
Raised in St Clair Shores, Mary received a BA from Wayne State University and, with her husband Werner, raised two daughters. They are proud grandparents of an 18-month grandson. Mary and Werner owned the Papercraft Company, which provided finishing services for metro-area printers. Since selling their business, she and her husband have enjoyed travel, especially visiting the National Parks.
Her favorite DIA moment happened the day an eight-year-old girl stood speechless at the Information Desk. When asked if she had a question, the young lady paused before responding, “This place is awesome.”
Mary wishes to send a special thank you to DIA staff and volunteers who patiently answer all her questions and who make her volunteer experience such a pleasure.
