Jackie Wooten
Art to the Schools - January 2008
The Detroit Institute of Arts honors Jackie Wooten as volunteer of the year for Art to the Schools.
Art to the Schools docents (volunteers) take the treasures of the DIA to the classrooms of 3rd through 6th graders in the Detroit Metropolitan area. They use the DIA collection to stimulate critical thinking, enrich established curricula, create future museum goers and encourage family visits to the museum.
Wooten, chairperson of this committee, is also on the Volunteer Council board and was very active in securing volunteers for the grand opening of the DIA after its renovation was completed.
Art has always interested the Bloomfield Hills resident and going to the schools through her volunteer work with the DIA has been a fun experience these past 10 years. Wooten has also served as vice-chairperson of ATS, treasurer, enrichment chairperson, and historian.
She had a very impressive volunteer life even before joining the museum. She served the Children of Domestic Violence at Haven, the
