Volunteer to Volunteer - November 2008Joanne Viviano has been a volunteer at the Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA) for 12 years. Her service has included working as a docent, a Detroit Film Theatre usher, and chairperson of HospitalityDIA. She was also a "duster" in the American galleries for five years. Viviano spends more than 500 hours a year at the DIA in her various volunteer activities. The art teacher for more than 40 years taught in a Detroit public school for almost 10 years and continues to teach art at Temple Israel. She loves people. Her favorite hobbies are art, learning, poetry, writing, musical theater, and traveling. Viviano especially loves connecting with people when doing art tours. One of her fondest memories is the Volunteer Committees of Art Museums (VCAM) conference that was held at the DIA in 2000. She was active on the committee that provided art tours to VCAM members at patron homes in Metro Detroit.
