Volunteer Award Winner:
Volunteer to Volunteer - September 2010
Marlies Castaing, an Interpretive Programs Volunteer (IPV), is the September Volunteer to Volunteer awardee. Marlies began her commitment to the DIA 24 years ago when she and her husband, François, relocated from Paris to the Detroit area. Having been familiar with the collections of the Paris museums, the depth of the DIA collection, which she considers second to none, motivated her to begin the docent training. Marlies believes that once you are in you stay for the people.
A woman of many interests and talents, the Austrian native loves classical music, painting on china and walking. On weekends during the winter months in Arizona, Marlies races vintage cars throughout the West Coast. She usually participates in five to nine events each year.
In her spare time, Marlies loves to travel around the world whether to her native Austria to enjoy the beautiful mountains or to Egypt to absorb its amazing history. But her favorite trips are to Spokane and Philadelphia to visit her grandchildren. New York and Chicago are also among her favorite spots where she spends time with her daughters.
Congratulations, Marlies, on being the September Volunteer to Volunteer awardee.
