Inscribed, on base, in 19th century, raised, gilded: ANTIENT [sic] STATUE | brought from THEBES in upper | EGYPT | by W. N. - A. D. 1820

Formerly in the collection of: Lord William Nelson, 1820 (aquired in Egypt)

The brother of Admiral Horatio Nelson. William Nelson was given a government pension after the death of his more famous brother. He went on a tour which included the Near East and was in Egypt in 1820. Lady Collingwood
